Real world life lessons
I was driving home yesterday after picking up my oldest from a church activity. We were talking about something she wanted to do later in the week, and I reminded her that money was tight right now, since I had recently left a full time position and am still building a client base as a hired gun/consultant.
As we discussed finances, she remarked that living under this new reality really wasn’t much fun and why would God allow us to have to struggle through this season in our lives? I asked her if she believed that God had a perfect plan for us, even though we didn’t know what it was. She agreed that He did. I then asked her if in fact that was true, then what should our attitude be like? She thought for a minute and then we talked about the lessons we could be learning from tough times. Could we actually have ‘fun’ with less? Could we take our eyes of ourselves and focus on others? After all, isn’t what God would want us to do?
It was a great reminder for me to practice what I preach/teach my children. God promises us in scripture to take care of our needs and to not give us more than we can handle. I needed that reminder as much as she did.
How do you handle tough times?
